Royal St George’s Golf Club
The Royal St George’s Golf Course consistently upholds a high standard, making it somewhat tricky to pinpoint specific weaknesses. Nonetheless, a couple of remarkable highlights emerge. Among these is the demanding par-4 4th hole on the front nine, where you’re challenged to carry your shot over one of Britain’s tallest bunkers.
On the back nine, the standout is the impressive par-5 14th hole. This hole poses the challenge of out-of-bounds lining the right side, a fairway bisected by a stream, and strategically placed bunkers! All demanding precise shot execution.
Established in 1887, Royal St. George’s proudly holds the distinction of being the inaugural English course to host The Open Championship in 1894. Throughout its history, the club has graciously welcomed this esteemed tournament 15 times. The most recent Open champion at St. George’s was Collin Morikawa, who claimed victory in 2021.
