When you stay at Hayne Barn Estate Eco Lodges in Hythe, Kent, you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of the Kent countryside. Our estate is alive with birdsong, hidden creatures, and unforgettable encounters with nature, the perfect backdrop for a relaxing UK wildlife holiday.
The Magic of the Morning Chorus
Wake up in your Eco Lodge to the enchanting dawn chorus. Thrushes, tits, and bullfinches fill the air with song, while Mr Robin Redbreast may even hop onto your breakfast table outside. Wood pigeons coo from the treetops, and later in the morning the distinctive calls of crows and rooks sweep across the fields.
Our nest boxes, dotted across the estate, have become homes for returning birds year after year.
Daytime Encounters in the Kent Countryside
As the day unfolds, Hayne Barn Estate’s meadows and woodland edges come alive. Spot rabbits darting across the grass, pheasants strutting proudly, and squirrels leaping through the trees. If you’re lucky, you may see a hare bounding across the fields or glimpse a fox surveying the land.
Listen out for the rat-a-tat of woodpeckers or the uplifting song of skylarks high above the estate.
Evening Magic at Hayne Barn Estate
As the sun sets, the atmosphere changes. Owls call from the trees, while the haunting cry of a nightjar may be heard. Look up to see mallards flying towards the nearby river at Hythe, silhouetted against the fading sky.
Night-Time Visitors
When night falls, the estate’s most secretive residents appear. Badgers, or “Mr Brock,” and his family sometimes emerge from their sett, while hedgehogs shuffle through the grass in search of food. Occasionally, a grass snake or slow worm makes a shy appearance.
Even rain brings its own show, watch gulls cleverly tapping their feet on the grass to tempt worms to the surface.
Nature at Every Turn
Hayne Barn Estate offers endless opportunities to experience the wildlife of Kent. From dawn to dusk, nature surrounds our Eco Lodges, making it easy to see why we named our lodges after beloved countryside animals like Hedgehog and Hare.
