With its stunning coastline, White Cliffs of Dover, and rolling green hills, Kent is a popular destination for tourists and residents alike. Kent has a rich history and is home to many historic buildings and points of interest. There are plenty of things to do in Kent, from visiting the beaches to exploring the many tourist attractions.

Places to visit!

From your home away from home base in Saltwood, You’ll be just two miles from the beach at Hythe, or you can venture a little further and visit Greatstone, Littlestone, and Camber Sands. If beaches aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other options available. Visit Port Lympne Zoo, Dover Castle, or take a trip on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Light Railway to see the famous lighthouse at Dungeness. Or travel down The Royal Military canal for an exciting adventure.

Port lympne wildlife reserve

The royal Military canal

Stretching for 28 miles from Hythe, Kent, to Cliff End in East Sussex, The Royal Military Canal was built between 1804 and 1809 as a defence against invasion by Napoleon – although its guard posts also proved useful in stopping the then-flourishing trade in smuggled goods.

Dungeness lighthouse

The Old Lighthouse is an Historic Grade 11 building, listed in 1992 by Shepway District Council, recently celebrating its centenary.

Opened with great ceremony by His Royal Majesty the Prince of Wales in 1904 after a 3-year build, it survived two world wars before decommission in 1960.

Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway

RH&DR – Romney, Hythe, and Dymchurch Railway is one of Kent’s top tourist attractions with visitors from around the world. The RomneyHythe & Dymchurch Railway (RH&DR) is a 15 in (381 mm) gauge light railway in Kent, England, operating steam and internal combustion locomotives.

Hythe Beach

Hythe Beach is located on the south-eastern coast, approximately midway between Folkestone and Dymchurch.  The unspoiled, mainly pebble beach slopes quite steeply into the sea and the water can become deep surprisingly quickly when the tide is in.

Folkestone Harbour Arm

Originally the railway terminal for the Folkestone-Boulogne Ferry and departure point for soldiers on their way to the Western Front, The Harbour Arm still embraces the town’s working fishing harbour, becoming a pivotal point in the town’s future and its historical past.

Since opening in 2015, Folkestone Harbour Arm has cemented itself as a major destination on the Kent coast. Reaching into the English Channel, offering views of the White Cliffs and glimpses of France, the Harbour Arm is a unique cultural attraction; a place to meet friends, see live music and sample the goods from nearly 30 independent food and drink vendors.

The Waterfront

10ft from the tranquil Hythe Beach, we are a fine dining restaurant and cocktail bar specialising in fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients.

Previously known as Hythe Bay the restaurant has recently been through an extensive refurbishment and rebranding to bring both the warmth and character back to the restaurant.

Whether you are dining inside taking in the stunning sea views, sitting out on the sun terrace, enjoying cocktails at the bar, or a classic family Sunday roast, the Waterfront provides the ultimate fine-dining experience.

The Lazy Lobster, Hythe

Fresh Fish, Meat, Poultry, Fruit and Vegtables available at our seafront shop, or take a seat and have a bite to eat in our cafe or on our benches on the beach!

Indoor seating is now available come down and join us and if its nice weather we have loads of outdoor seating too! No booking needed.

The hide and fox

Hide and Fox is the culmination of Allister and Alice’s careers in award-winning restaurants and hotels. Now the couple return to Allister’s native Kent, to realise their dream of opening a restaurant driven by their love for hospitality.

In a characterful dining space in the heart of Saltwood, we offer two creative tasting menus. Our commitment to quality extends to our handpicked wines and carefully thought out bar list. Everything is served with the elegant modern touch for which Allister and Alice are known.

Dungeness Snack shack serving delicious beach food to take away made from our own fresh, sustainably caught fish and seafood. Family business.

Rocksalt

Food with a view… The heart and soul of Rocksalt are our menus, served in both the stunning restaurant area and the bar on the first floor, both of which are complete with their own sun drenched terraced areas for the summer months. We take time and effort to source our ingredients as locally as possible: from the day boats working along the South Coast to the local farms set in the rolling Kent countryside, our focus is always on provenance.
